OSCAR NIEMEYER

Bruno Latini e Oscar Niemeyer

"One of Oscar Niemeyer's grandchildren visited, one day, my permanent exhibition at the Museum of Contemporary Art (MAC) in Niterói. Enchanted by a specific piece, the ring I produced in honor of the museum, called MAC Ring, he commented that there is affinity between my work and Niemeyer’s. In addition, he offered to set up a meeting between Oscar and I. In this first conversation, I took the liberty of saying that my father was a friend and lived with Niemeyer in different situations in life. a few days later at the architect’s office in Ipanema, it was me, my wife Gabi and my former press officer. I took the ring to show it and tried to be as informal and simple as possible, since I’ve lived with architects all my life and I thought that would be the best approach.

Upon arriving at the site, we initially greeted Niemeyer's wife, who is his secretary. I thought it was great to be so close to someone so talented and lucid at such an age - 102 years old, at the time of the meeting. Another grandson of his, 35, who also worked in the office, was present.

When I introduced myself to the Oscars, he commented that he was very happy that we were not architects. “I can't stand any more students of Architect asking questions.”, He released. He was also impressed with the ring and I presented it with the piece. Oscar, in turn, passed it on to his wife in celebration of Valentine's Day.

When observing the work, he took a look at my works and said that he wanted to produce some jewelry. I asked the type of jewelry and he thought of something to be placed on the forehead, fitted on the head. He had been imagining this for some time, he commented. To carry out the wish, I made available to the goldsmith at the store and he said he would really like it.

At one point, I asked him what it was like to be 102 years old and he promptly replied: “Shit! My friends have passed away, so have my children. You have to tell your story over and over again because people don't know it anymore. It is a great feeling of loneliness. ”.

Soon after, his calculus arrived and I felt that there was a great affinity between the two. "One day, I'm still going to screw this guy up and I'm going to do a huge span with no column.", He said.

Oscar told some facts about the Old River, events in his life and at that time, his wife came into the room and said that Israeli authorities were waiting for him. He was, at the time, designing a city in the country. However, he asked: “Keep waiting. The conversation is very good and I will not interrupt. ” I was very happy because he was relaxed.

Soon after, he asked the woman to take a red book. “Oscar”, the title of this book, presented his new projects. He ended up giving it to me too. The meeting lasted about four hours and delayed the delegation that was waiting for it. I left saying: "You are not from this planet.", He commented. "
